The number of coats depends on the % of mineral spirits you cut the Tru-Oil with. Thinner = more coats.

The guitar was finished in 2/3 weeks and have been playing the hell out of it ever since, no real scratches or dings to speak of. I must have put about 30 coats on it - see pic. One coat was thick as I wet sanded and used the slurry as grain filler. WebJun 3, 2024 · Beats me, but it's thin and dries quickly. After the last coat, it's playable in 8-10 hours and really slick in a day or two. I don't find any sanding to be necessary. I inspect the first hour or two after a coat, and if I see a mistake (a run), I run over it with a rag lightly soaked in mineral oil to smooth it out.

Just rub a thick coat of paste wax over it, let it dry for about 10 minutes and buff it out.
